I don't like the new layout. It's too confusing with three columns vying for attention. It's not clear which one holds the main story. The new layout also requires a full screen window; i.e., the columns will not resize to fit the window. The old layout was easier to read and easier to navigate.

I like you new look. I think it is up-to-date and I haven't had any problems locating what I want.

It does load a little slower, but I am sure that is something that can be remedied.

I start my day out by reading your paper first.

Why not add 'sudoku' to the list of site 'jumps' at the bottom of each page, perhaps right beneath 'entertainment'. It used to be near the top of the left-hand column in the old (friendlier) format. I'm not one of the folks who believe that change equals progress, so I simply didn't see any need to change a web page that worked well and one with which everyone was accustomed. Oh, well.

You get a solid grade of "A" for design and eye appeal but you barely get a "C-" for navigation and ease of finding articles. The old design was far better at quickly finding the most important articles. I also feel the old design for listing latest headlines utilizing tabs that separated local, state, national and sports news was far more logical than the current design. Design change solely for the sake of change is a mistake repeated throughout our society. I believe that the old design served us well. Some minor graphics tweaks for greater visual eye appeal would have been a smarter approach. As the old saying goes... don't fix it if it ain't broken! I will also chime in with similar gripes that the site is far slower now than the former site.

I like the overall new format, however everytime a new page is selected, it first appears centered on the screen, then jumps to the left side of the screen and then jumps back to the center. This process takes 5 seconds or so to complete. Therefore, everytime I select something new, I have to wait for the jumping to finish before I can read anything. It is extremely annoying.

I tried finding private auto sales in the ad section by locals and end up on cars dot com. Paint an elephant blue, green or white it is still an elephant. You have given us a facelift but it is still UGLY inside!!

Why is "change" so important? I'm a Detroit native who relocated out west and have kept up with hometown news first through the "Freep", but gave up on them with their bewildering reformat and now the News has their self titled "vibrant" change. How many hours of staff meetings did it take to decide on that description? It looks and acts like 50,000 other web sites. The more needless features you add the more difficult (and slower) it is to navigate. And what's up with this ridiculous "captcha"? This is my last visit. I don't care about Detroit any more. You've destroyed the last link I've had with my roots. "Vibrant" and "captcha" this...

The site is nice BUT

When viewing a sports forum (i.e. Lions Talk), and trying to go to another sports forum (i.e. Tiger Talk) using the "Site Index" on the bottom of the page, the user must first go to the Tigers/MLB to view the Tigers Talk forum. It would be nice that once you are in a sports forum the others are listed in the "Site Index" similar to the old layout.

David Michael Klemmer, Jr.

Editor's response: You can find Michael's Going Home blog by going to the blogs index off the top navigation, then look for Neighborhoods blog in the box to the right. Or use this direct link. -- Nancy Hanus

I don't like it. There was nothing wrong with the old one.

When the Free Press change to their busier, disjointed page I liked the simplicity of yours.
Now there is no difference.

One again someone messes with something that isn't broke and makes it worse.

Nice job :-(

The Lions Talk forum is really slow to load, and I have to refresh several times to get something other then a blank page. I have to enter a password everytime I post , instead of it remembering my password. It's also hard to get a post box to come up. I do like the layout better, and hope these are all just glitches that can be worked out.
