You don't get this stuff on Facebook

The deaths of a father and a cousin. The murder of a close friend. A severely ill grandchild. A bout with prostate cancer. A divorce. Jobs lost. A son's knee ripped up in a post-game celebration. Another son shipped off to Afghanistan. A neck surgery ...
Our community, Friends of Fletcher Field, has had its share of setbacks and heartbreaks in recent months. So much so, there have been times when I actually second-guessed helping bring this group together.
It's just a fact: The more people you know, the more tragedy you bring into your life.
But the flip side of that equation makes it all worthwhile: The more people you know, the more love you bring into your life.
For the first time in quite a while, we experienced the ultimate upside of our F3 community last night. After a huge gap between meetings and events, we packed my parent's basement in Roseville to talk about the coming summer at Fletcher Field and the Sunday's in the park, which begin this Sunday at 2 p.m. with a reading program, a softball game and a barbecue.
The handshakes, hugs, smiles, hopes, dreams and inspiring words were back and felt so good. You don't get this kind of stuff in a virtual community like the one on Facebook.
Come join us and experience the love at Fletcher Field on Sunday.

Facebook is anything but a "virtual" community. In fact it's very real. There are lots of very good reasons to join. Friendships, reconnecting, love, hope, support, advertising, whatever you need or want you simply post it. Within seconds responses are flooding in. The Blog is how I found F3 and Facebook is how friends of mine found connections to our neighborhood. I post everything we do and the response is at times overwhelming whether I'm getting kudo's for my F3 endeavors or suggestions and support. Our group page, Friends of Fletcher Field, now has 35 members! No, it's not the blog but it is indeed another connection tool. I have posted upcoming events and already have responses/interests in the Run at Mt. Olivet. It would be nice if you would join but it has to be your decision. I know how modest you are but I think your membership would be a strong influence and a big credit to the group. I've had members ask me why you are not in the group.
I still think you are somewhat avoiding the whole idea of Facebook because you have some preconcieved negative opinions of it. I say,,,,, "Try it, You'll like it" It jsut happens.
