A date at 'The Corner' with Tram

Alan Trammell watched his Fletcher Field, Tiger Stadium, continue to come down on Tuesday -- and I had the unbelievable opportunity to be there with him. (This is the best job in the world sometimes.)

The former Tigers shortstop, and later their manager, is now the Cubs bench coach and is in town for a three-game interleague series at Comerica Park. He decided to take the opportunity to say goodbye to 'The Corner,' a place still near and dear to his heart.

"... my years of playing in Tiger Stadium were very special to me," he told Tom Gage for a story in Tuesday's Detroit News. "I want to see it one more time."

As you already know, I'm a baseball nut -- grew up at Fletcher Field emulating my childhood Tigers hero, Willie Horton, and loving Tiger Stadium nearly as much as the park on the corner of Dobel Street.

What most of you don't know is that my oldest son, Louis Alan Happy, is named after Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell, my favorite double-play combo of all time. So it was very special to hang with Tram this morning.

But it also broke my heart to see his breaking the way mine will if Fletcher Field ever meets the same fate as Tiger Stadium.

Mike.....You are very lucky to have had your picture taken with Alan Trammel. I am not a Tiger fan, but I do know that while Alan was playing for the Tigers, those are the team player's I remember. The winner's of the 84 world series. Also, my grandpa was a big Tiger fan. Wheather they played good or not, he was a TRUE FAN! Today, I couldn't even tell you one player for the Tigers. Tiger Stadium was a monument. Comerica Park is not. To me that sounds like you are going to the bank!!!!! Are you getting the picture framed?
