Snow, cold and quite a show

Cold, blustery, snowy -- and wonderful.

Saturday's living nativity at Fletcher Field was quite the spectacle, and Gunther certainly lived up to all the hype. Watching the looks on the kids' faces as the camel walked out of the trailer was precious. They all were told he was coming, but I don't think it was real to them until his hooves were on the park turf.

Thanks to all who braved the cold to be a part of it. And keep Shield of Faith minister Imogene Johnson in your prayers. She put so much of herself in this that she ended up in the hospital shortly after the show.

[More:]

Early reports from St. John's in Detroit are very good, though. Seems her fainting spells were the result of exhaustion and dehydration. In fact, after she was given fluids intravenously, she was feeling good enough to try to escape.

Come back to the blog on Sunday and Monday for pictures of the living nativity at the park and tree lighting at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

If you don't like the weather in MI stick around it will change. So they say. Unfortunately yesterday's weather was too cold to budge a change. I sit here now with the the sunshine beaming through my windows and melting away the snow that sort of accumulated from gusts and drifts from those powerful west winds yesterday. How sad we didn't have todays weather yesterday. The one thing that did keep my spirits up is I'm sure Mary and Joseph wished for better conditions too on the night of her giving birth to our savior Jesus Christ. I must say with the costumes, animals, and the weather the virtuality of that time was incredibly reinacted. Everyone did a fabulous job including the puppeteers! Sure we all complained about how cold it was but not 1 kid would trade thier wings for a quick trip back to a warm home. All were eager to go on with the show. Thier excitement was duly noted by all. GREAT JOB ALL OF YOU!

How is our favorite Minister Prodcer, Imogene Johnson doing? I was terribly saddened to hear of her trip to the hospital. Please get well soon! We all love you so much and want you home. You were deeply missed at the tree lighting ceremony.

Just talked with Imogene. She's home, in good spirits and "running on all eight cylinders again." She's even talking about planning a Christmas party at the park or SOF on Dec. 21. What a wonderful lady!

Bet most people didn’t know there were folding chairs back at that time of Christ’s birth (had to chuckle when I saw them in the video – with the blustery weather, we were trying to keep the children warm and forgot to pull the chairs backstage before the presentation began;)

I have to wonder if God wasn’t testing just how committed we really were. Or whether some of the children thought an afternoon in the park with snow would be more fun – and their prayers were answered. In any case, it was a most memorable and wonderful event.

Thankfully, Imogene is very well and back to her energetic self! I guess this was a rare occasion where I was glad to have some built-in insulation (read: body fat) to keep me running throughout a very physically challenging (albeit: very special) day.

Blessings of the Season!

Words can not express how blessed I am to have Friends of Fletcer Field as my friends and partners. The love, dedication, faithfulness, perserverance and spirit of excellenct is Above and Beyond. I am so greatful to God for allowing me the priviledge and opportunity to labor in the vineyard of the Fletcher Field community with them. After weeks of making costumes, rehearsing lines, looking at sound systems, building props, designing flyers and the program, creating a special banner and fixing treats, in the extreme cold and snow, they put on such an annointed production. Thank you, thank you, thank you. As you have given, I believe that God will give it back to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will men give into your bosom. My love and thanks to the Royal Puppeteers and my Shield of Faith family who were there to support this play.

Please remind me to drink plenty of liquids before going out in the cold. I was a little surprised at how physically challenging it was. I am doing well. I am running on all eight cylinder again. Going to the hospital, what a way to end such a special day.

I am in love with Gunther. He has such a sweet personality and he is mischievous. He knocked Michael's crown off, tried to eat Jon's halo, and wanted to give me a kiss. Having the animals there was special. I know the kids loved them.

May your holiday season be filled with God's best!

Thank you for the video--and the event itself. To brave the weather alone was amazing. What an event! What leadership! Thanks to all who worked on bringing it to fruition. Wish I could have been there. Many blessings.

Peace, Mike W.
