What's Alabama got against Detroit?

For the second time this week, a politician from Alabama made want to jump through the television screen on Wednesday.

Bachus

Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee, is on my naughty list this Christmas season. Hell, in my opinion, he’s public enemy No. 1 in Detroit.

“The Big Three stands as emblems of the American dream and they have been an integral part of the American economy for generations,” Bachus said, adding however that the bailout “raises fairness issues, does not solve the problem… and is not the American way.

“The American people have bailout fatigue. We need an exit strategy from the string of bailouts.”

[More:]

Know what, Spence? We need an exit strategy from a war you and your fellow Republicans got us into that has cost this nation its financial stability. And don’t forget about those financial institutions – the greedy, fraudulent suits – who helped cause this mess and then took a federal handout to save their own asses.

Instead, you’ve decided take it out on a city that was the backbone of the industrial revolution and saved Democracy’s ass during World War II. (Think the Japanese are going to build us our tanks for the next big one?)

I’d like to invite you Up North for a quick visit to Dobel Street, Spence – no Fletcher Field tour for you. It will give you a perfect view of the blight you’re about to create throughout the Midwest and beyond if you and some of your colleagues don’t get a clue.

Say it with me everybody: CLASS WARFARE. That’s what we’re really up against here.

We’re an easy target – always have been. But if idiots like Spence decide to take aim and blow it up, well, God help them. Even the folks in Alabama are gonna feel it and then Spence will need a bailout.

I haven't seen the clips of the Alabama politicians you noted. I'm not sure you are aware but Alabama has quite a few auto factories in its state. However, they are for the most part not Big Three factories. A couple of years ago the New York Times ran an article on how the auto industry was moving from the north to the south. Most of the large foreign car manufacturers (Honda, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, etc.) have set up shop in Alabama, receiving the type of tax breaks that normally go to the Big Three.

So, perhaps the Alabama politicians are focusing on the needs of their constituents/campaign contributors instead of the greater good. Or maybe they're just jerks.

Watching the news coverage of the meetings going on in Washington regarding the bailout, now called a bridge, I'm not sure who said it, if it was Spence or not, but this quote made my blood boil... I'll try to be exact but someone said "the TAXPAYERS (govornment?)does not want to bail out the big 3 because it was the Big 3 that got THEMSELVES into the trouble they're in now in the first place. Whaaaaaaaat?

How bout this...The Govornment should send every single household in America today a million (even half a million) dollars. This entire country would have no choice but to reboot everything. Imagine the supply and demand needs. Jobs, investments, less poverty. Tons more to benefit from then not. Think about it. It could even eliminate needs for bailouts entirely.

Couple of thoughts. First, the Democrats mantra has always been, THEM REPUBLICANS ARE FOR BIG BUSINESS!! Duh, now who do they want the Republicans to bail out? Yup, big business. Secondly, we have a lame duck Congress in session. Most of them are going to vacate Washington soon becauses the UAW Democrats put them out of a job, with much venom. Now the UAW mob, Gettelfield, etc. are now saying "We killed your careers, but now please save ours! What a mess.

There's so much hypocrisy here on both sides you could write a book about it. The bottom line is, if something doesn't give, millions of hard-working Americans are going to be unemployed, and our state and city are done for.

This is like being against the war but supporting the troops.
