Even more photographs

The old photographs are coming in at a brisk pace now. I can hardly wait to see them all together on the memory boards Chris Kempa is doing for the reunion.
Today's batch included some priceless Holy Name sports pictures, including one of the 1967 boys varsity basketball team, shown to the right. There is a larger version posted below, plus one of the Class of 1972 and a classic from Fletcher Field.
Enjoy and keep them coming.

4th row, after Allen is Tommy Guzak (sp?)
3rd row, James McMahon (?)
Bet I could name them all if the drawer on my bureau wasn't stuck in the closed position. That's where my class picture from '71 is. It's cheating, but at least I'd be accurate AND I could send one to MJH.
BTW, would your birthday be in November?

Allen, we came into the world on the exact same day. And, yes, I remember that old car. Wow, what it would be worth today! The Race's also had some scrumptious berry bushes in front of their house. Us kids competed with the squirrels and ate them up as fast as they ripened. When they're in season here, I buy loads of them with the feeling that I'm "buying back some childhood".
A kite interfering with ATC? Never ran into that problem, probably because mine gravitated to the trees no matter which way the wind was blowing.
I thought Guzak was the name called after mine for attendance taking at HNS for nearly all eight years. From what's posted here, that's probably not so. I'm sure my class picture will assist me with names. A huge thanks for the photos and to all who posted on this topic.

And everyone does understand that the reunion is Easter weekend right?
Though I am quite a bit older than you, I have some vague memories of your father, Paul Gerace. I remember him as the epitome of the 1950's greaser--Handsome, black pompadour hair-cut and an ace mechanic, wearing a work shirt or workman's coveralls with the name "Paul" over his right shirt pocket.
It was through my friendship with the Dobrowolski brothers Mark and Julian that I became aware of your Dad. Mark Dobrowolski had a '55 Dodge clunker that he would drive down Dobel to your house for mechanical advice. Mark always spoke highly of your father. Mark (Miroslaw AKA Pinliner) currently works for Mohawk Distilleries and Julian lives in Romeo. I last saw Julian and Mark a few years back when I threw a "Gathering of the Geezers and Hag Burning" up on my farm. You may remember Julian's greaser hair style from back in the day as sort of like a Polish James Brown. You won't recognize him today---bald as Buddha.
Ms. Gerace, next to your house on Dobel lived the Conlins. Michael, the oldest boy, graduated with me from HNS in '65. His sister Mary was certainly a cutie. Old man Conlin worked with my old man at Currier Lumberyard on Davison.
Across from you was a two family flat. The upper was inhabited by the Nichols family. Old man Nichols was a grave monument salesman and the family was one of the first to leave Dobel around 1965 and headed to Clawson. Walter Nichols graduated from HNS in '65 also. Walt had a younger sister, Mary, whom he would tease constantly calling her either "Hussy" or "Fat Ankles". Walt's claim to fame was his hair style, whose fore-lock he dubbed "The Walterfall".
Downstairs in that flat lived the Huber family. Cheryl (?) Huber graduated from HNS in '65 also. Shirley Huber, a cousin to Cheryl, lived there also. Many a randy youth from the long ago can recall that bee-hive coiffed greaser goddess. Mark and Julian surely can.
Ms. Gerace, regarding that old car. It was definetly an old Packard luxury car. Big, shiny and black, probably a late 1930's model. With Detroit's industry geared for war production as World War 2's "Arsenal of Democracy", most post-war autos did not appear until around 1947--1949.
I can recall seeing that old guy driving slowly in that remarkably cherry car as me and my Droogies hung out on the steps of the HNS auditorium. We always pointed at it and chanted "Gangster, Gangster". Excuse me, not "gangsta", that old man had too much class and was probably heavily into Swing.
It was rumored that the old man was a chauffer in Grosse Pointe and that the Packard was willed to him after his employer passed away. If anyone has info on what became of the old Packard and it's Dobel St. owner and who he was, PLEASE POST.
Ask the Man who owns one,
