Call-ups

As far as I can find on the net there is an unlimited number of "emergency call-ups" but I think after the trade deadline there is a limited number of "regular call-ups". I really would like to see a complete set of rules on this.... it is not in the CBA. The call-ups this year were Abby, Janik, and Larsson. When Wings got May they had to send Abby down and then he was recalled when Franzen went down... is that still an emergency call-up?

I thought Janik and Larsson would be considered emergency call-ups since they replaced players who were out.

The Red Wings Already Have 2 Grand Rapids Contracts On the Team

Grand Rapids as a team may sign UFA's that don't have NHL contracts to help fill their team. For example, last year Frances Pare was signed directly by the Grifs. Pare had nothing to do with Detroit even though he was a Griffin. Last year Pare had a true "Grand Rapids contract".

And Cheli is a UFA with an AHL contract to play with the Wolves. Cheli has no ties to Atlanta or any other NHL team.

If some NHL team wants to sign Cheli, he'd need to get his release from the Chicago Wolves first.

To call guys that are Red Wing signees "Grand Rapid contracts" is a misnomer. Our draftees that are playing in GR as well a Delmore, Janik, Jeremy Williams and Kris Newbury are all Red Wing property assigned to play on our minor league affiliate in Grand Rapids.

And Calder, I agree. I also think we need to have a #7 defenseman in reserve and up here ready to go. We saw Janik last time we needed someone, but Delmore was injured then. I wouldn't mind seeing Andy D here just in case now that Kronner is out for a while.

And as for a rule stating that there can only be 4 callups on an NHL team, well, I don't know that rule and couldn't find anything about it in the CBA or on line.

here is the rule:

"A club may place a player on the Injured Reserve List if such player is injured, disabled or ill and unable to perform his duties as a hockey player after having passed the Club's initial physical examination in that season.

A player who has an injury that renders him physically unable to play for a minumum of seven days after that date of the injury can be placed on the Club's Injured Reserve List. Once a player is placed on the list, the Club may replace said player on its NHL roster with another player. All determinations that a player has suffered an injury warranting injured reserve status must be made by the Club's medical staff and in accordance with the Club's medical standards." (-NHL rule)

I don't see a limitation on the number of guys that can be on LTIR. So as long as a guy in on LTIR, he can be replaced. So, if you have 6 guys on LTIR, it looks like you can have 6 replacements come in from the minors. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Bertuzzi...

And how many times have we also heard.... "Bertuzzi couldn't pull the trigger".....?

Bertuzzi is the one in white:

Bertuzzi...

Any good scorer has patience with the puck. The problem with Bertuzzi is that he can't afford to have patience with the puck because he is getting knocked off the puck and he is turning it over.... so that is causing him to hurry his shots and turns into just another poor shot.

Sun. 11/22/09 09:47 PM

Bertuzzi...

I agree with you on Bert, Jimmy. He's had enough near misses, that lately he seems to be trying to aim the puck too much a bit and waiting a little too long to let it go IMO. Anyone who knocks the performances of Bert or Homer so far this season, really hasn't been paying attention. Homer was tied for goal lead on the Wings before the last game against Montreal which I forgot to DVR so I missed and Bert has been there to dump back a lot of potential garbage goals, unfortunately, none of those put backs have found a home yet, but they eventually will.

The Red Wings Already Have 2 Grand Rapids Contracts On the Team

Otherwise, with the record pace of players on LTIR in the league this year just about the majority of teams would be in big dodo come March or April.

And you know more injuries are going to happen ..... I just hope it is not another D-man. Maybe Miller can play defence.

So does that mean Detroit has the ability to bring up 4 "grand rapids contract" players per year.... I never understood that and I don't see anything in the CBA that states those limitations. I always thought that when someone went on LTIR you had to ability to replace him up to the value of his contract regardless of how many you already brought up.

I still think the Wings should have a back-up D-man on the bench for emergencies.... whether it is Delmore and any other 2-way contract player.

Sun. 11/22/09 09:18 PM

Kroner...

Hopefully you are right...but im not so sure. Meetch has shown some decent offensive skills, but his defensive skills are very limited...and probably will remain the same. i dont see him getting better anytime soon..if ever.

But at number 6 he will be fine. Babs will run 5 Ds most of the time like he's done against the Habs.

Abby and Helm have minor league options, but they are have Detroit Red Wing contracts. Maybe that's what Jimmy Dickens meant.

The Red Wings Already Have 2 Grand Rapids Contracts On the Team

A player with a Grand Rapids contract cannot play on the Red Wings. He'd be under contract to the Griffins. The Griffins would have to release the guy from his contract so that we could sign him.

Yeh Dickens.... who are the two Grand Rapids contracts anyway? Miller is a two-way contract and Abby's is the only one I can think of who is GR.
