a rare treat...I was proud of my team.
Yes - the defense was abysmal. Brady Quinn looked like Joe Montana. OUr secondary is pathetic. They can't cover or tackle ( except Delmas ). Our O-Line is getting our kid killed. BUT - I saw heart and guts. That was epic....
Yes, it was pass interference..not a mercy call. The refs were 100% correct, you cannot push the tallest and most talented wide receiver on the field out of bounds with your back to the play...right in front of the ref. That was a moment to build on....Stafford is no longer the rich kid, he's the tough little SOB that has your back in a bar fight. Do you think Cleveland players feel that way about Brady Quinn? Do you think the Jets still have a man crush on Dirty Sanchez?
Give me 2 corners, a couple big mean olinemen and another sammie hill type in the draft/FA this off season....I'll get you 6 wins.
SnP - Golfer on Lions' Long Term Thinking
Don't look now, but Pettigrew is starting to show the Excellent hands he had in College. Actually, not many balls dropped by our receivers yesterday as a whole, maybe it just took time to adapt to the bulletts that Stafford zips in there. Pettigrew will be a Pro-Bowl TE by year 2012, as will Stafford. That's not debateable, because I said it.
SnP - Golfer on Lions' Long Term Thinking
I said I THOUGHT Mack was drafted ahead of Pettigrew but wasn't sure, and name anybody on here that doesn't agree the oline is lacking, and has been for many years. Also like it or not Raiola and Backus are the veteran anchors of the Lions line and have been thru several different coaching staffs, again not agreeing with that but that's how it is and how it has been. Last offseason was the first I have ever heard the Lions even have rumors about replacing BackusNow if they draft some rookie olineman next season, Stafford is a 2nd year vet and has started to proven himself and he commands their respect right away.Lots of different ways to build a team. Neil and you have good points, but since the Lions didn't take Mack and did take Pettigrew it's a mute point left for the shoulda coulda woulda category. Nothing we can do about it, and saying that Mack would have improved things by himself on this oline is speculation. He would have been a start for sure, but not the end all, and again nothing WE can do about who they picked except try and make the best of it.
Golfer!
Neil's posts are all self-serving; not like mine, where I do my best to spread my knowledge and enlighten others. I never let my ego get in the way of what I post, unlike those silly kinadiens who have a infuryoritee complex, and boast and brag when they're right. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a very important meeting with one Mr. Sam Galloway this morning, who happens to own several large Ford Dealership's in SW Florida. It's not football related, but I'll feel him out to see if he has any pull with WCF. Don't be surprised if the Lions draft who I think they should next year.
People, before I go, I'd like to say please stop with the self-important, self-grandoising posts, they paint you in an ugly light. That's not a request, it's an order. Thanks for your cooperation.
SnP - Golfer on Lions' Long Term Thinking
The Browns picked Mack AFTER the Lions picked Pettigrew. Golfer made the point that the Lions could have picked another Center in the third round. To me, this IS exactly the problem with the Lions' thinking, and a perfect explanation of why the Lions are the most pathetic franchise in the NFL. The Browns, remember, have not lost 16 games in a season, and lost yesterday ON THE ROAD at the last second ON A PASS INTERFERENCE CALL (that many in Cleveland call "suspect" at best, and I can't print here at worst). Raiola is the foundation of a below-mediocre offensive line that consistently had their QB on the run yesterday, and eventually nearly killed him. What's even worse, the kid will probably miss another game Thursday, which will make three this season. He's been on the run all year. Quinn had occassional pressure, but was much better protected than his counterpart. Bottom line? Quinn will start next Sunday. Decisions are what we judge people on. The Lions have, for far too long, left the OL and DL to vagrants. While the Browns lost yesterday, I like their long term prospects better than the Lions. The Lions have to go for OL and DL next year, and not "On The Cheap". Pay peanuts, Get Monkeys.
Stafford's 422 Passing Yards
Don't know if this was covered yet, but I wondered if Stafford's 422 yards passing was a Lions' record. Nope...it ranks 3rd behind Jon Kitna (446 yards) and the legendary Charlie Batch (436 yards). Nonetheless, great effort!
Golfer!
No, Neil was adamantly demanding that the Lions draft Hugh Pepelini. Some twisted logic he came up with, I think it was a self serving choice.

HUGE PIPELINE GETS LAID ACROSS CONTINENT
WC:Mack
GOGO- From what I've heard, Stafford went back out against the advice of Dr.'s and coaches. He just ran out there. I think that was a HUGE step in gaining the teams confidence.
Unfortunately, I agree with you on the coaching. Schwartz standing there with his arms crossed seemingly dazed, instead of wringing those CB's necks leaves me wanting more action. We'll see, I mean, there's so little talent, what do you do?
BIG DEAL
Does that mean they win more than they lose? Not yet. "The fans deserve better." still rings true Mr. Ford. Dick Jauron should be on a plane tomorrow. Unproved GM, Unproven Coach, & a still Unproven QB. Can't get excited...ie. (Too little Too late.)
WC:Mack
Firstoff, let me have a four course meal of crow. The Lions won. They proved they are 1 point better than being the worst team this year. But I am elated they did win. But at what cost?
Will Stafford be healthy enough to play Thursday?
I've been pining here for years for the Lions to shore up the OLine and DLine but they continually opt for offensive bling. I actually have to say, contrary to my prior feelings, that Stafford might finally be their one success. If he is not destroyed in the meanwhile......while they look to build a line to protect their investment. Raiola and Backus, although the vets, need to be gone. The example they exhibit is terrible. Neither deserve to be, even on the Lions, players, let alone starters.
We all know most phases of the defense is second rate, but the defensive secondary is the worst in all of football. They are so horrible even one of the very worst offenses in the NFL lit it up on them, and very nearly beat them.
I am still down on the coaching. Stupid mistakes on the field, along with decisions that make no sense all point to questionable coaching. With Stafford obviously in agony with his left should/collarbone, they put him back in? Sure, it worked, but what a risk. And for what. I really think Culpepper would have scored.
Guess thats why I'm no coach....lol
Hopefully the Turkey day game is as good with the same result.
Rookie throws 5 td's

Rookie throws 5 td's
NFL.com has lions highlites.
Stafford took a big hit on the interferance call. similiar to Sam Bradford.
Tough kid to come back in though.
Maybe some big bubbas in the draft will help,
Shawn Rogers
I don't recall hearing biggies name called once yesterday.

Mack looks like the real deal, butall those rookie olineman you mentioned have something on the line they are playing on that they wouldn't have on the Lions, an established good offensive line. Raiola and Backus ARE the Lions veteran anchors, so if they got rid of them and replaced them with Mack and another rookie those guys wouldn't have the luxury of having someone show them the ropes.Kind of like having Joey Harrington starting with Mike McMahon as his mentor........From all accounts Mack has taken well to his role of controlling the inside of the line for the Browns, I think he would have been a good pick too, but the Lions didn't take him and I might be mistaken, but I thought the Browns manuevered in front of the Lions to take Mack? Plus not only did they keep Raiola, the gave him an extension too.
Richard With Ford Credit
Just got a call from some guy named "Richard"(Sounded like Ahmed or Habib to me) at Ford Credit, wanting to know when I will be making my payment. When I congratulated him on the big win yesteray, and asked his opinion on Matthew Stafford, he seemed a little perplexed. Geez, you would think the Ford family would have thrown a big party. I guess word travels slowly to Pakistan.
