On Thursday no doubt the TVs will be on in New York and in Georgia , to see if the Lions can become a spoiler . The Giants will have their hands full as they face the Broncos in Denver who are in almost the exact position as the Giants . With a win Thursday this will put the Broncos 1/2 game over Pittsburgh . Of Course if you're a Atlanta fan you would love to see both teams lose .
Stafford
I don't really have a question, but just want to say that the kid is a 100% gamer, and if this team won't go through a brick wall for him, then they shouldn't be in the NFL.
Pure guts, or maybe nuts, but I'm proud of Stafford none the less.
Today's Performance
John, I will be the first to admit to wanting the Lions to draft Aaron Curry, and no, I wasn't one of the gang that gave Matthew Stafford such a rude welcome to Detroit on draft day.
But I will also be the first one to ask if there is any doubt in the Detroit Lions organization, or within Metro Detroit who the undisputed leader of the Detroit Lions is now. Matthew Stafford cemented that title with a tough, gritty performance ala the Detroit Lions of old, taking this old timer back to the days of Bobby Layne, Wayne Walker, Alex Karras and so many more. It must have done the living Lions alumni present good to see the kind of team that is being built in Detroit.
The performance that all of the Lions put on today is definitely something that as Coach Scwartz might say, trending up.
The Lions showed mental toughness, too, coming back from a 24-3 deficit, but the question remains: do the Lions go searching for corner help in the 2010 draft, or do they look to improve their offensive or defensive lines first? Also, on the sugject of the Lions veterans honored today, is it suprising that Dick LeBeau, Alex Karras and Wayne Walkeer didn't make the cut? And do you think any or all might make the 2010 group?
Stafford
John,
Stafford looked like a #1 today and seemed to buy time and make big plays by himself. The one thing I noticed is that he seems to have a lot of trouble with short passes. Today there were at least two he threw behind the receiver and was lucky not to get picked. Two others he threw with a lot of zip but missed by a lot. Does he struggle with short passes in practice too?
gaines' TD
John,
I think you missed it in your live blog. The mistake Ciurciu made was going for the ball. If Gaines had been in the end zone, trying to deflect the pass would have been the right play, but he was at the 1 yd line so the catch would not have been a TD - all he had to do was drive him out of bounds. Trying to deflect the pass left him unable to make the tackle.
Change in assignment
How tough has it been John by going from the Red Wings to the Lions?
Best game I've seen in years...
Despite the fact that the Lions played a sorry Cleveland at home, you got to give it to the Lions, especially QB Matt Stafford. He now owns the NFL record for TDs in a game by a rookie with 5TDs. When was the last time you heard of a Lions QB, especially a rookie, throwing 5 TDs PERIOD against any team? This game was very exciting and Cleveland actually played pretty well for being 1-9. If you didn't know any better, you wouldn't have known these teams were 1-8. I am very proud of Matt Stafford for stepping up at the end and showing me that my opinions on him were true. People always tell me that he's a bust and another Joey and I always defend him. Now, people will keep their mouths shut and know that Detroit has a good foundation in place. Give Detroit 2 more offseasons for a better o-line and defense and Detroit will be a good team.
John,
Do you think that Detroit will beat Green Bay Thursday and is Matt Stafford or Calvin Johnson seriously hurt?
Lions Vs Browns
Final Thought: This game was an appalling dump heap overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment of deplorable rubbish imaginable and the Lions happened to win it by one point.. given the Lions ability to play this sport I'll more then likely remember the pass to Calvin Johnson when he was covered by three defenders and the interception rather then the time out that allowed him back in the game for a touchdown; that play is just idiotic as hell.
Lions Vs Browns
I'll be shocked if the Lions lose today! SHOCKED!!!!!!! Ok no that's a lie.. I expect them to lose and embarrass themselves and all of Michigan. Is it really a wonder why I would follow the Pats given these circumstances?
GO PATS!!!!
Mike Ohara's week 11 picks
Chargers (6-3) at Broncos (6-3): The seasons have turned around since the Broncos beat the Chargers, 34-23. Since the game, the Chargers have won four straight. The Broncos have had a bye and three losses.
Line: Broncos by 3
Pick: Chargers
Not me!
I'm glad he misprinted this, it actualy is
11/22 4:15 ET San Diego -4 At Denver
So in the spirit of disagreeing with mike o . I say
Pick Broncos
When You're Not Real Good
Hello John. I just noticed that the league has fined Julian Peterson for striking Tavaris Jackson "in the head area", yet the league has not fined Ray Edwards for as the referee put it, "launching and striking the quarterback in the head."
What gives? I have heard that if you are not very good in the NFL, the referees will "help" you to remain not very good.
Seems as if, in the case of the Minnesota game, the league is helping the referees to "help" the Lions, in that regard.
Comments?
John
You know what? I'm not afraid of all these blackouts, and you know why? It would take about a billion of these before I even flinched. And you know what's happening during these blacked outs? I'm creeping off to the side, and then when I'm good and ready that's when I'll make my way right up next to them and kick them in the face.
2010 Draft
John,
If the Lions just happen to have two consecutive #1 overall picks, wouldn't that be the first time that has ever happened? If they are #1 overall, what do you think they will draft? How does this affect the salary cap or uncap in 2010 with all of that money going to a handful of young players and do you think WCF will start overpaying to get some playmakers in here?
Boring (For the tweedle dumb)
I made my way to the top of the ledge where the Q boy was watching the Lions. "That was boring," I said. "boring," said Q boy. "Let's climb around this Lions landfill some more." "How bout NO," I said. "I think I've wasted enough time watching you eat garbage." "I haven't," Q boy munched. I said he had, and Q boy said he hadn't. We argued back and forth like that for a while, then finally the season ended. I didn't say this story was interesting.
Boring
I made my way to the surface of the escarpment where the Q boy was waiting. "That was boring," I said. "boring," said Q boy. "Let's escalate up this mountain some more." "How bout NO," I said. "I think we've wasted enough time." "We haven't," Q boy insisted. I said we had, and Q boy said we hadn't. We argued back and forth like that for a while, then finally headed back. I didn't say this story was interesting.
