Top 10 movies of the decade -- you choose
Over the next month and a half I have a major task. Not only do I have to come up with my top 10 movies of 2009, I have to come up with the top 10 movies of the decade.
The problem, of course, is that I can barely remember what I saw last week, much less what I saw in 2004.
Oh, sure, I can do research, and I will. But I realized it might also be helpful, or at least interesting to ask others to post their top films of the past 10 years (that would be 2000 forward).
So go ahead, post them by clicking "comment" below, either with or without explanation. Or if not a formal top 10 -- doing such things is harder than it looks, trust me -- at least some suggestions.
So far, all I can think of is "Doomsday." Oh, yeah, "Orphan." Maybe "The Departed." Alec Baldwin was so cherry in that.
And so it begins ...

Top Ten Movies
I can't imagine a list of the top 10 movies of the decade without American Beauty on it. Funny, thought provoking, and some very good acting. It was a critics darling, but alos did well with the general audience.
The problem is, "American Beauty" came out in 1999. But it would definitely be on my list for the '90s...
Top Ten Movies
When compiling such a list, you have to average in three things: 1) Quailty (30%) 2) Historical Relevence (20%) 3) Fun (50%). The Lord of the Rings trilogy is listed as one -- to make the list longer and thus.. more fun.
That said, here's my list in a particular order.
10) Lost in Translation
9) Shrek
8) Gran Torino
7) The Descent
6) Star Trek
5) Kill Bill: Vol. 1
4) Into the Wild
3) Iron Man
2) Juno
1) Lord of the Rings (trilogy)
I would've liked to add The Incredibles, 500 Days of Summer, Pan's Labyrinth, Drag Me To Hell, and City of God -- but they just missed the cut. They would round out my top 15.
Yeah, The Descent ocurred to me this morning. I'm actually thinking of breaking it down by genres -- horror, romance, comedy, sci fi, etc. And The Descent is probably the leading horror contender... until I remember some other great horror film...
Top 10 of the '00s
1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
2. Almost Famous (2000)
3. Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-03)
4. No Country for Old Men (2007)
5. The Wrestler (2008)
6. Memento (2001)
7. I'm Not There (2007)
8. Adaptation (2002)
9. Inglorious Basterds (2009)
10. There Will Be Blood (2007)
I'll probably change my mind tomorrow, then again the next day, and again the next day... that's just how these lists go.
Cheers,
Joe
That's why I'm digging the suggestions... each list has another movie I hadn't thought of, which just gets me thinking some more. Thanks for the list
