Colorado Tax - Amazon

Why is this news? It's income that is earned, it should be reported and taxed. Why is this family being singled out for hardship? How many people aren't making less income this year than last year in Michigan and across the U.S.? Most families have both parents working to support themselves - that's typical. The home schooling is a choice. The kids can go to a public school. None of this is any worse than most people have to deal with.

Taxes discourage growth, prosperity and income

If Colorado is in a financial bind, then this proposal to tax Amazon and other online purchases is a prime example of the irrational and dense ideology of those in the position of policy. You get less of whatever you tax. Taxes are not an incentive. Taxes are a disincentive. Colorado should get its own house in order before it attempts to coerce others to pay for their financial troubles. I would applaud Amazon for pulling up its stakes in Michigan if our own dense legislators attempt the same measure. Eventually, Michigan will wake up to the fact that if you want prosperity, then do not tax prosperity. If you want growth, then do not tax growth. And if you want to cut the budget deficit then look in the mirror and cut the size of government, period.

Analogy: Imagine... you are in debt and felt you could justify and force each of your neighbors to give you a few dollars every month to help you pay down your debt or simply to finance your living standard. Now imagine that this irrational exuberance was actually forced upon each of your neighbors... Hmmm. It wouldn't take too long for some of your neighbors to pack up and move somewhere else now would it? Now, all the vacant homes and the lessor demand by outsiders to live in that neighborhood due to a coercive scheme to take money would decrease the economic activity, decrease the values of the homes in the neighborhood and basically hurt the economy of the neighborhood. Now, instead of dumping the burden on everyone else while shooting oneself in the foot, shouldn't you just take some responsibility and perhaps reduce your standard of living until you are out of debt?

This experiment in Colorado should be proof of the damage that taxation causes. Sure Amazon will lose the pleasure of doing business in Colorado, but every day Colorado citizens are punished the most, not by Amazon as some might like to believe, but by the dense minds of the elected officials of Colorado for attempting such a silly stunt...even thinking there is a justification for it... C'mon America. Wake up!

Amazon Drops Colo.

I use to sell on Amazon, even had a store! They were the greatest.

Then I helped a family member who listed an item that they deemed as "invalid" and closed his and my account with a LIFE-TIME BAN !

One mistake, no warning, no recourse.

Lady, if you read this, go to www.Half.com. It's owned by eBay and it's almost as good.

Amazon Sales Taxes

All sales on the internet should be taxed at the rate set in the State of the buyer. Why should online sellers have a 6% advantage over a store selling the same products??

negotiate before not after

The television signal is owned by the broadcasting company and access is only allowed by contract since the cable or satellite company is charging for that normally free signal to go to customers.

If the cable and satellite providers want unfettered access, they only need to provide those free signals to their customers without charging anything. It is only when they charge customers for delivering the signal, that a contract is required. But that also means that there is no implied or real contract to provide a clear or constant signal to the cable/satellite company.

Also, negotiate before the deadline of the contract not after so that in the event of failure to renew they can give customers the choice to cancel service without penalty because the customer is not getting what was agreed by contract between the cable/satellite provider and the customer.

CyberSurvey: I scream for iPad?

It's a peice of garbage until they support Flash content. I can't believe they're marketing this as a web browser. Most news, sports, and entertainment web sites use flash for their video, so why would anyone lay out $600-$800 for a computer that doesn't support this.

Hulu - Charging is a No-Go

I've watched many television programs and a few movies on Hulu, since I don't have a TV at home. After catching up on those I've missed, I ran out of interesting programs for the same reason I stopped watching TV originally and gave away my television.

Now, I might watch a program three times a week on Hulu, and the rest of the time I switch to Netflix. I might watch more if Hulu had more full series programs. I can watch all the Stargate programs all over again if I want, but I can only watch the last few weeks of 24. And I've never been interested in comedy shows or reality-based tv.

With Netflix, I can get two DVDs at a time (the program I chose), but I can also watch as many of the programs available for instant streaming as I can fit into my schedule, for no extra fee. Television programs might come on DVDs or they may be available instantly online, each is different. I have no reason to pay for two such services. If that means that I wait until the season ends before I can get the programs, so be it. My life won't change at all. The programs are either good (at which point I don't mind waiting) or not good (whereby I won't be watching anyway), and it's all my own choice.

I like Hulu. But I'm not going to pay for two services, and Hulu's content is not sufficient for me to switch. I don't care about cable television, I don't have a DVD recorder (because there's nothing I would want to record), and I'm not going to go buy a television for the garbage that is mostly all I see on public television. And advertising isn't going to change my mind. They can play advertising if they want, I ignore it anyway.

Google Fiber

Does it have raw capacity and speed and ten-dollar clickthroughs?

Cell Phone Radiation Label

Nice, but incorrect association in your article regarding cell phone radiation.

Don't get me wrong - if your cell phone is nuclear powered, then your depiction IS suitable; otherwise, you had better sharpen you pencil and find the CORRECT label - an RF radiation symbol.

Media research just ain't what it used to be.

AT&T Poor Coverage

I recently moved to Farmington Hills and thought I'd moved into some bermuda triangle of AT&T coverage, but as I've lived here longer and even roam around the local area I find that my phone says I have full coverage ('full bars'), but my phone consistently fails to work. I called AT&T and they blamed my phone, despite the fact that my wife's phone doesn't work, my brother-in-law's AT&T phone doesn't work, etc. in this area. I'm really starting to wonder why I'm dropping some much on this voice and data plan for my smartphone. I've used AT&T for years, and apart from the terrible billing system they used to have, the past year or so has been my first really bad spell with them. I'm not sure of what to do w/ them.

Google triumphs again.

Comcast is so worried about the intelligent consumer going to Google Broadband (as WOW has taken business from Comcast) that they are sending people around Royal Oak today (Feb 11, 2010) to do 'surveys' on internet service and demonstrate how Comcast can benefit the homeowner.

They know that the days of a Comcast monopoly are gone.

They know that the days of poor service at high cost are gone.

They will probably take the marketing ploy of low-balling internet/TV service with a required 2 year contract. That way they can trap the consumer in a cheap plan and siphon customers from Google.

After the 2 year plan Comcast will increase the price as they have always done.

AT&T is doing the same thing with their 'bundled bargains'. The consumer is now trapped in an inflexible 2 year plan and 'uverse' is still an empty promise.

All of their time and energy is spent in lobbying against viable competition and litigating foolish causes.

Apple's approach to iPad e-books could confuse

"...the new device is undermining a painstakingly constructed effort by the publishing industry to make it possible to move e-books between different electronic readers."

That's Apple for you! I am not the least bit surprised.
