Interestingly enough, the Dairy Industry kind of felt that if they had to pay a tax on Cattle Emissions then why not things like municipal solid waste or landfills.

Iran Begins War Games to Protect Nukes

Amazing how the left blindly defends Saddam Hussein. They do it anyway while the ignore the massive evidence that involved human atrocities. In other words, they flat deny it ever even happened. Well, here's one more evidence that it did from the AFP. Saddam literally tortured thousands of innocent Iraqi citizens, starved many, used chemical weapons on many, and women were often raped and beaten, so much of fact, despite the mass graves in Iraq that the media don't want you to know about that are factual events that did in fact occur in Iraq.

Time for Small Business

Let's quit looking to the White House to fix us. Start within ourselves, and move forward.

Let's quit worrying about big business coming back to save Detroit. We have to do it ourselves, by working together. One on one, small businesses are the critical path to our success!

Call your neighbors on the phone, meet for coffee, tea or a piece of pie. Support 3 small businesses where you personally know the people -- this week. Spend a dollar, spend $50, spend $100, whatever you can afford. Do it again next week, and the week after, and the week after that - make it a habit.

Cars are the history of Detroit - and they should be the future too. Dare to dream, dare to apply for Small Business Administration financing. Are you retired and bored silly? Volunteer at your local SCORE offices. Are you young and bored out of your mind? Volunteer, or even better, start a business.

By the way: in business, it's more than just energy + a good idea. You've got to learn skills of promotion, communication and networking. Ask for help at your SCORE office. Learn to write, and use spellcheck. You'll never get a second chance to make a good first impression.

Rules? The most basic rules apply: if you want things changed, get out and do something

Re: Stand Off in Standish

Spyder, the article I cited, quoted the City Manager of Standish saying they were a minority. If he and the whole Council voted to accept the detainees, I expect there's some significant support for it or else they'll be out of a job come the next election. I posted it mainly because it had the video using people from Standish and thought some of our readers might know people there and would be interested in seeing them.

I'd also remind you that newspaper polls are easily "freeped". None of them are scientific.

No News = Bad News

Pug, I never said that. Chris accused me of making up that there were offers to get it free with a subscription or that it was available a deep discount. As it turns out I realized last night that Newsmax has also been running a google ad on my own little blog The Impolitic for a couple of weeks as well offering it for free. The point was, one has to be a really dedicated fan to pay full retail and stand in line all day just so you can maybe get her to sign it.

And I'm not making any judgments about the quality of the book. I haven't read it. Although there is a point to be made about the book industry in general that they artifically inflate the sales volume of a book by selling truckloads to folks like Newsmax who offer it as a premium. That's true for a lot of books, not just hers.

Anyway, for anyone who was looking for a good deal on her book, I just did all the work for you in finding them. You're welcome.

Re: Stand Off in Standish

Just to build on Libbyneedsajob's post. A recent poll taken by the Bay City Times (you know a paper that is actually near Standish, not some blog that is ran by the Washington Post) shows that more people are against bringing in the Gitmo detainees than are for bringing them in. The poll results can be found here: http://www.mlive.com/news/bay-city/index.ssf/2009/08/youve_voted_why_or_why_not_sho.html

Again I really don't have a dog in this fight, other than to point out that Libby should probably not comment on things that she has no clue about and if she is, she should research both sides of the issue and not just rely on a Left Leaning blog to do her research for her...

Libby giving a book as part of a promotion means its free if you

subscribe to TownHall magazine for 35 dollars it doesn't mean they got the book for free to give it away. How much did they pay for the book so they can give it away. You act like the books are worthless so they are giving them away, not true. The book may be worthless to you and me but this America and crap is king, just look at the success Obama's press release called a book had.

Flat out lies or too lazy to fact check?

Let see Libby and her liberal sources claim:

"These people claim to be speaking for the majority of the town, but the City Manager says that's not true. In fact, the "Standish city council recently passed a unanimous resolution expressing support for bringing Gitmo detainees," as a way to bring much needed employment to the town."

But ABC News states:

"A Michigan town may be waffling on welcoming Guantánamo Bay detainees.

On Monday, the Standish City Council passed a unanimous resolution expressing interest in having a federal prison at the Standish Max Correctional facility, slated to close Oct. 31 due to budget cuts. But the resolution stripped out all reference to the detainees currently being housed at the US base in Cuba.

Read it here:

http://abcnews.go.com/US/michigan-council-wavering-accepting-guantanamo-prisoners/story?id=8901446

And the Freep says:

"The Standish City Council doesn't want terrorist suspects now held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to come to this northeast Michigan town, going on the record this afternoon. Instead of passing resolutions supporting the transfer of detainees, the council, faced with job losses when a state prison closes, voted to encourage the state to find prisoners from other states or the federal government to transfer prisoners from other facilities."

And the City Manager from Libby's snippet above? Well the Freep talked to him as well:

"The unanimous vote doesn't preclude the transfer of the Guantanamo prisoners to the soon-to-be-closed Standish Maximum Correctional Facility, but removed all references to the terror detainees from the resolution. City Manager Mike Moran said the resolution is merely "silent" on the issue."

http://www.freep.com/article/20091019/NEWS06/91019062/Standish-council-cool-to-Gitmo-detainees

Pretty striking differences in the facts being presented. Read the freep aticle, the resolution was changed because of opposition the Libby claims does not exist.

And ABC must be part of the Liz Cheney propaganda machine, they said the same thing that the video states, only they said it 3 months before the video came out.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=8324579&page=1

It took about 30 seconds to fact check this on Google, so either Libby does not make even the slightest effort to check on the talking points she is sent each morning or she is just flat out telling lies. Which do you think it is?

I don't care if the prisoners go up there or not, but the local voices should be heard. I also do not know how this level of dishonesty, wethe,r on purposed or because of laziness is allowed here.

Government

This is exactly what so-called conservative and neocon propaganda has been trying to do: envoke fear and demonize particular words like "government" and "taxes". Their goal is easy to see: to take any kind of rational thinking out of people's minds, to turn them into zombies and then send to townhall meetings - not to debate anything but to disrupt.

I don't like big government a single bit. But I am not going to demonize it because last time I checked, in our country we have the government of the people, for the people and by the people. And if government doesn't perform, we fire it.

And by the way, it is GOP that is the party of the big government. Don't take it from me, take it from John McCain who said during his 3rd round of debates with Obama (I'm still puzzled how the latter didn't jump on it right then and right there): the size of the government went up by 40% over the last 8 years. And we all remember who was in power, right?

The best answers to our problems often come from the heart but the solutions come from an open one and a willingness to change it

While the world points fingers. They do have a higher expectation for religious folks than they have for themselves. Is that a form of hypocrisy. See the Christian sin but fail to see the error of our own ways at the same time. We all see the stories about how the left feels Carrie Prejean is a hypocrite. I say she's a sinner and that's what the Bible says to. That however, doesn't prove anything for the leftist groups going around making a mockery of her life.

As far as I'm concerned, I have no use for the San Francisco liberals. Their on to big of a high horse to come down to earth where everyone else is for the moment. The real world in which we all live, eat, and sleep. In the real world, most people don't cling to the ideals and values of the San Francisco liberals, including most homosexuals. When Hollywood decides to come in to orbit down around earth and in reality, maybe I'll give them a little more stock in credibility.

The reality is that the daily life of the average homosexual isn't all that glamorous despite the fact that some try to paint it as some kind of great adventure. It's not, and most who practice it for any length of time are generally not happy people. Those are the people I care about. The ones who will be real with themselves and the problems they face everyday. If your one of those people I want you to know that you don't have to continue in the life spot your in right now. Its not a permanent condition either as the left would have you believe.

You don't have to continue life in the emptiness and despair you feel in the mind and heart. It seems that we always put off until tomorrow what we should be doing today. When tomorrow comes today is always yesterday. Your future doesn't have to be your tomorrow. You can start new today and your future will be different. The left may not want to hear it but the answer is in the center of a devoted spiritual devotion to God and his holy word. If your in that struggle now and life has you running in low gear then take a step of faith today.
