A Troy father called the cops on his teen daughter, who he discovered was growing a marijuna plant in her bedroom closet. Talk about tough love!
The story is a 16-year-old girl had a lock on her closet because she said her siblings were taking her clothes. But when her dad forced the lock open he got a surprise: a little pot garden, complete with plant food, grow lights and a fan, according to police.
So he called the cops, who came, photographed, collected the evidence and are now investigating charges.
So I tried to put myself in the dad's shoes. Would I call the cops on my teen boys? It depends.
We don't know what was going on leading up to this discovery. Was she "a good girl" who never gave her folks a reason to worry or someone who had been in trouble, lying, sneaky? I don't think I'd involved anyone official if this was a first offense, but I sure as heck would take it very seriously. However, if we'd had trouble before, I might.
It's a tough call. This guy made it. Let's see what happens.

Dad turns daughter in for growing pot in closet
Yes, I would absolutely turn my son or daughter in. I'd also turn their friends in if I knew they had this set-up. (after talking with them and their parents) They know the law and if you break it there are consequences which apply to everyone...well, that's how it's supposed to be.

My error on previous post...substitue "Dad" for where I used "Mom"...although both are probably equally oblivious.
Man up "Dad."

Great. Mom dumps parenting work on the cops. As for how the kidlet learned how to do this, if she has computer access she needed no other advice...it's all there. Mom allowed the wee precious one to lock her closet? Mom's a Dwarwin Award candidate perhaps?
We must not traumatize the kidlets now, heaven forbid, why just let the cops do it. I would call "Mom" stupid, but that'd be too much a compliment.

By the looks of this elaborate set-up, this teen looks as if she has some experience in this arena or is hanging out with people who have guided her on proper care of "plants."
Parents need to pay attention to what their kids are doing and have a better relationship with them. Ask them questions, find out who their friends are and meet their parents. Too many parents are passive and allow their teens to do whatever they want.
Would I call the cops? I could not say unless I were in that situation. But, certainly, I am doing my best to make sure that my child does not walk down that path.
